Maryland Strawbale Farmstead in Collaboration with Earth Bound Building

Both a rear addition and attached two-bedroom, octagon shaped home were designed for an expanding family living in a late 1800s cabin in northern Maryland.

The timber framed, straw bale composition speaks to the farmstead family’s strong tie to the land, making natural building methods a, well, natural choice.

The two-bedroom addition is connected via a hallway that also includes a new laundry room and porch. The octagonal structure features an oculus, bringing plenty of natural light into the central living space.

A rear addition is attached to the 1800s cabin to bring additional kitchen+pantry space to the ground floor and bed/bath space above.
